Tharaka-Nithi County Commissioner Ms. Beverly Opwora told Baite Tv that the county had received 34,000 huduma number cards in February 2020 but there were several procedures that had to be completed before they could begin issuing.
Ms. Opwora said that the government officially launched the huduma number collection exercise in Kiambu and Machakos counties in December 2020.
Prior, the government had rolled out a mass registration of huduma numbers where an I.D. was required in order to be eligible for registration. During an official ceremony in Kisii, the president received his huduma number card.
Ms Opwora said that Tharaka Nithi county received 34,000 huduma number cards in February 2020 but there were several procedures that had to be completed before they could begin issuing.
She went on to say that the most important thing is that a person will receive a text message notifying them that their huduma number card is ready for collection because some people were working in the county at the time of registration, while others were students in various educational institutions.
A cardholder said: “I received a text message informing me that my huduma card was ready for pickup. I encourage residents to collect theirs as well, as it will save them the trouble of carrying their documents around.”
Another huduma card beneficiary said: “The text message requesting collection must be presented. Only those who have received the message are being given the card.”
