NCCK Meru County On BBI

Must read

Members of the NCCK Upper Eastern Region’s Meru County Coordinating Committee convened on April 27th to address the state of Meru County.

According to Josephine Kathurima of the NCCK eastern-upper region and Meru county coordinating committee, the government should have done more to educate Mashinani residents about the BBI.

“The majority of people are unfamiliar with the document and are unsure whether to support it or not. Others are curious as to how it will impact their lives,” she said.

“People should avoid being divided by the BBI, and we urge them to keep the peace in their communities.

“As Christians, we should preach unity and pray for our leaders and country. We should accept the results of any election because we are the stakeholder in the country, and politics should not force us to eliminate one another.

“We need to understand that there is life outside of politics,” she said.

Rev. David Nkaabu, the secretary of NCCK Meru county coordinating committee told Baite Tv that the Meru County residents are unaware of the issues raised in the BBI.

He said that the chiefs were compelled to sign BBI in order to pass it.

“People are currently perplexed about the BBI’s course. Currently, BBI isn’t a high priority,” he said.

“People’s economic well-being has been impacted by the Covid 19 pandemic, and finding ways to mitigate its effects should be a top priority.

“Otherwise, civic education of residents about the BBI Report is necessary prior to the proposed referendum.

“As NCCK leaders, we believe that the issue of boundaries, as outlined in the BBI document, should have been handled by the IEBC.

“Our suggestion is that the IEBC should have been given the mandate to divide the constituencies based on population.

“As leaders, we’ve noticed that two teams have emerged as a result of BBI. The BBI is supported by some and opposed by others.

“This is endangering the peace among those who are opposed to the document for no reason other than they have not read and comprehended it.

“We urge people to refrain from fighting without first reading the document and instead understand the benefits and drawbacks that they believe will affect them,” he said.
