Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) General Secretary Edwin Sifuna has maintained that the party is strong and aims to oust the Kenyan president in the 2022 general election.
Mr Sifuna said the party was popular all over the country and had supporters in all corners of the country.
He said this at a time when divisions have arisen in the party over the issue of whether the BBI Bill should be amended or not.
Senate minority leader James Orengo and Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo have called for the bill to be reformed.
Mr Sifuna said ODM aims to enable young people to find employment, eradicate poverty, revive the economy among other programs to benefit ordinary citizens.
Sifuna said if the Secretary-General does not tolerate people who intend to disrupt the ODM party for their personal gain.
“It should be noted that when I took office as General Secretary, I made it clear that I would not allow this party to be degraded by our friends in the NASA alliance. Do not think that we are equal to them; ODM is at the forefront, ”he said.
“The odm party is strong under the good leadership of former prime minister raila odinga and his secretary general. So, I get annoyed when I hear other people who are not members of the odm spreading rumors that odm is divided in relation to the bbi. “Sifuna has been deprived of the post of the constitution, and other baseless allegations,” he said.
Mr Sifuna urged ODM members not to be intimidated or disturbed by the noise and propaganda from their friends at NASA who had separated from them in the past by indifference.
“I will continue to fulfill my role as Secretary General with all my heart and without fear. And I do not expect our competitors to enjoy my work, ”he said.
“As a party we have announced that after the BBI Bill passes in the referendum, we will strategize to start the journey towards the White House and form the next government. We will do this in partnership with our trusted friends and have the same views as them, ”he explained.
Mr Sifuna said at the moment ODM’s biggest need is to ensure that the BBI Bill is passed to make Kenya a better country.
“After that we will start the movement to form alliances for the formation of the next government. We will not join parties that will end up being a burden to us as we did years ago.
“For example, if you ask ODM supporters here in Bungoma, they will clearly say that the CORD and NASA alliances contributed to our party losing seats in the grassroots in the 2013 and 2017 elections, including here in Bungoma,” Mr Sifuna said.
He said as Secretary-General he would ensure that ODM wins the governorship, senatorial, parliamentary and councilorship seats in Bungoma County during the next general election in 2022.
Earlier this week Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya warned that the BBI Bill could tear the party apart. However, the party’s MPs supported it when it was voted in parliament
