Woman escapes lynching over forgery allegations

Must read

A woman was nearly lynched by some angry traders who alleged she is a conwoman.

The lady was attacked in the streets on Wednesday, May 6 by angry traders at Makandara in the Imenti sub-county of Meru county

According to one of the eyewitnesses who witnessed the ordeal in Makandara, the woman collected fees and issued receipts while claiming to be a county government of Meru employee.

“The county government should issue badges to its employees prior to collecting council fees. The number of forgery cases in Meru county is increasing,” he said.

Another eyewitness said: “There is no way that someone could have a receipt with the original county government logo without the county government being aware of it.

“The suspect must be working with some of the staff. Investigations should keep us up to date on the identity of the suspect.”

Another eyewitness told BaiteTv that if it hadn’t been for two good Samaritans who rescued her from the mob, the woman would have been lynched.

According to a trader, the lady threatened them with a Ksh 500 fine if they did not pay the alleged Ksh 100.

“She told us that after we paid and received the receipt, we needed to take it to a specific office in the Meru county government in order to receive the corona money,” said another trader.

“People should not have thought of lynching her because they gave her the money without coercion. She should be forgiven because she is a parent,” said another trader.
