A teenage girl and her partner are charged with the murder of her father in Las Vegas, an act for which they boast in a video that they recorded on their cell phone and while still escaping arrest,
Prosecutors are using the video, which is available to KLAS, as evidence against 18-year-old Aaron Guerrero and his 16-year-old girlfriend Sierra Halseth.
“Welcome to our YouTube channel ρα Day 3 after someone was killed …” Guerrero says with a smile on his face. “Wow, don’t put that on camera!” laughs Halseth. “It was worth it,” adds Guerrero, tapping his girlfriend gently on the forehead.
The obvious confession on camera took place in April, days after the young couple allegedly killed the father of the 16-year-old. Daniel Halchet, 45, set fire to his home. He then fled in the victim’s car and was arrested about a week later in Salt Lake City. Halseth’s father appears to have been murdered when his parents told the teens they could no longer be together, according to KLAS, citing police. Sierra’s mother, Elizabeth Halchet, was once a Republican senator who was elected at 27 and was the youngest person in the Nevada Senate in 2010, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal.
The two teenagers will be tried as adults as in Nevada a 13-year-old can be tried as an adult for murder or attempted murder, but as soon as they become 16 the juvenile court has no jurisdiction over such serious offenses.
It is noted that the 45-year-old had been fatally stabbed, while his burnt body was found in the garage of his house, in which a small fire had broken out, while it was an arson. Halseth’s mother contacted police, saying she had not been in contact with Daniel for days.
Investigators said the body was found in the garage. Later, inside the house, they found evidence according to which the couple had thoroughly cleaned the area while at the same time there was a large burned area in the living room as well as accelerators that are often used to cause arson.
