A driver plowed into a crowd killing a mother of two

Must read

A mother of two is a woman who was killed when her car was hit by another vehicle during a demonstration in Minneapolis , Minnesota, USA.

Deona Knajdek, 31, allegedly used her car to block a street for protesters when another vehicle crashed into hers on Sunday night . According to the BBC, the suspect was detained at the scene by protesters and arrested by police. His motive is unknown.

Knajdek died after being taken to hospital by ambulance. A second protester was injured and taken to hospital, police said.

As the relevant preliminary investigation has shown, an alleged factor in the incident may be the alleged use of drugs or alcohol by the driver.

Knaddek had posted a video on her Facebook page earlier Sunday showing a peaceful demonstration with a small number of protesters.

On her page, she identified herself as an addict and a survivor of abuse.

Her mother, Debbie Kenney, visited the scene on Monday. “He wanted something to matter, and he wanted the lives of blacks to matter, and all that to stop,” he told the Star Tribune.

Knajdek’s brother, Garrett, told the newspaper that his sister was using her car as a roadblock and another vehicle hit it, causing it to hit her.

He said his sister had returned to Minnesota from Georgia a year and a half ago to be reunited with her two daughters, ages 11 and 13.

Demonstrations continue in Minneapolis, following the June 3 death of an African-American man, Winston Boogie Smith, by police who tried to arrest him on a warrant for his arrest as a gunman.

Smith, 32, a father of three, was said to have been in a parked car and pulled out a gun, prompting police to open fire on him.

Minneapolis has been the focus of nationwide protests over racial inequality since the assassination of George Floyd on May 25, 2020.
