Watch: Lorry carrying firewood overturns

Must read

A 6-wheeler lorry hauling logs of firewood tipped over on a road in Nyaki East, Meru County.

The owner revealed that the dilapidated road was a main factor in the accident. No injuries were reported.

“I am a business lady who supplies firewood to take a song of factory,” said the owner.

“The lorry had gone to transport firewood, and at 6 a.m. my employees informed me that the lorry it was involved in an accident.

“I’m grateful to God that none of them was injured.

“The accident occurred as a result of the poor condition of the road.

“I discovered that logs were placed beneath the road and the top layer was covered with soil.

“When the accident occurred, residents arrived on the scene and stated that they had previously complained about the poor state of the road but had received no assistance.

“I urge the leader in the area, as well as the government, to keep the residents in mind.

“It will be difficult to transport a sick person on the road. Also, two cars cannot fit on the road.

“I received a phone call informing me that the lorry I had loaded with firewood had been involved in an accident near the elected leaders’ residence,’ said Paul, a resident.

“This road has been impassable for a long time because people were used to carrying their deceased to the morgue last year.

“I request the leader to repair the road if he wishes to be re-elected.

“The road is in a poor condition and poses a risk to those who travel on it.

“The accident is a loss for the owner because the unloading and loading of the firewood will need a lot of labor,” he said.

“What amazes me is that we have always complained about the trench,” said Wanja, a resident.

“We only see our leader during campaigns, and once elected, he goes about his business far away from the village.

“We placed logs on top of the culvert when it split in two.

“We strongly urge our leader to repair the culvert,” she said.

“Robert, our leader, is a friend of mine, and this is his community,” said Timothy, a resident.

“He is supposed to repair this section of road because it is close to his home.

“He never knows what will happen, and he could be elected as an MP if he repairs the culvert and trench,” he said.

“The accident that occurred today astounded me much,” said Mercy, a resident.

“We are accustomed to hearing about accidents that occur far away, but we witnessed one today.

“I urge our leader to repair the trench so that boda boda operators can travel on the road safely,’ she said.
