Parliament of Kenya is set to host the 80th executive committee meeting of the commonwealth parliamentary association (Africa region).
The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) (Kenya Branch) is set to host the 80th Executive Committee Meeting of the (CPA) (Africa Region) from 12th – 18th July 2021 at the Nairobi Serena Hotel.
The CPA (Africa Region) is essentially the African Chapter of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. The association brings together parliamentarians in Commonwealth states around the globe in pursuit of the positive ideals of parliamentary democracy. The Association is made up of over 180 legislatures (or Branches) divided up into nine geographic regions of the Commonwealth.
The CPA (Africa Region) is comprised of the following Regional Organs:
(i) Speakers and Presiding Officers
(ii) Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians(iii) Society of Clerks-at-the-Table and
(iv) Regional Secretariat

The Speakers of the two Houses of Parliament, the Hon. Justin B. N. Muturi, EGH, MP, and Sen. Kenneth Lusaka, EGH, MP, are Co-Presidents of the CPA (Kenya Branch) while the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Hon. Justin Muturi is the Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the CPA (Africa Region).
The Executive Committee meeting, which is a precursor to the Annual Conference to be held later in the year, comes at a time when legislatures in Africa are in the forefront in actualizing the implementation of appropriate measures to mitigate the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic across the continent.
Key among the powers and functions of the committee is the management of financial and administrative affairs of the Africa Region.
The meeting will be attended by representatives from 18 National Branches, as follows- Botswana, Cameroon, Eswatini, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. Sub-National Legislatures that form part of the membership of CPA (Africa Region) that are expected to attend include State and Provincial Legislatures from Nigeria, South Africa and Tanzania (Zanzibar).
Kenya’s delegation to the meeting comprises of the Hon. Justin Muturi, EGH, MP, Speaker of the National Assembly/Leader of Delegation, the Hon. Dr. Makali Mulu, MP (Senior Regional Representative) and the Hon. Muriuki Njagagua, MP (Branch Representative).
