The Islamic State (IS) jihadist group claimed responsibility for a bomb blast in the Iraqi capital, Iraq, on the eve of a Muslim holiday of sacrifice that killed at least 35 people and injured dozens more.

In a post on its channel on the Telegram platform, the IK reported that the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber, who, according to him, was named Abu Hamza al-Iraqi.
The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a crowded market in Baghdad’s Sadr City neighborhood on the eve of Eid al-Adha, security sources and hospitals said. Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Qadimi chaired an emergency meeting with top security officials on the attack, his office said.
