A man died after he was shot with an arrow in Anjalu Antubetwe village in Meru County, police said.
According to the brother, the deceased was mentally ill. Police went to the scene and found the unresponsive victim with an arrow wound.
“He was born normal until a year ago, when he began to develop mental issues. When he came across people on the road, he would pull over, preach to them, and pray for them,” said the deceased’s brother.
“He would also pay visits to members of the community who were working in their fields, borrowing water, money, and food. At the time of his death, he was not in possession of any stolen property. I believe they recognized him and were aware of his mental health issues. They were heard celebrating after he was killed.
“They claimed he cut a bulb wire with a machete, which is false because he was not carrying it when he was discovered dead,” said the deceased’s brother.
According to Daniel, the Chief, they have possible suspect leads, and the OCS had compiled a list of four names of those who were involved.
“When I received word that someone had been shot to death with an arrow, I urged members of the community not to take the law into their own hands, said Daniel.
Ezra Sambo, Laare OCS, implored the members of the community to contact the police when they have any information about the suspects.
“I also urge them to report theft cases in order to prevent future incidents. My promise to the members of the community is that once a suspect is handed over to them, the police will ensure that justice is served,” said Ezra.
“The arrow suspected of being the cause of death for the deceased will be sent for analysis, and the results will show whether or not it was the cause of death,” said Ezra.
