Wrapped in a red cloth, a 22-day-old baby girl was found abandoned in a wooden box floating on the Ganges River in the Gazipur district of Uttar Pradesh.
Speaking about the incident, boatman Golu Chaudhary told Sputnik that he first heard the little girl crying before spotting him floating in the water near the shore.
“With the help of some villagers, we pulled the box. When we opened it, we were shocked to see a 22-day-old girl just wrapped in a red cloth. “The box also contained photos of Hindu deities and a baby horoscope, ” Chaudhary said.
Within a short time, a huge crowd had gathered on the river bank to understand what had happened.
Chaudhary, 45, a father of three, took the baby home saying, “Since we found the baby girl on the Ganges River, we named it Ganges.”
When the police were notified, they transported the baby to the hospital in order to find out that he is in good health, stating: “The reason for the abandonment of the baby is not clear yet. At first we suspected that the little girl was ill , but after the test, she is completely well and is under observation. Poverty is probably to blame for the abandonment. The reason is unknown. “We plan to send the baby to the childcare center soon,” said Inspector SS Adarsh.
