An inconceivable murderous conspiracy with the involvement of a … cobra aimed at deceiving an insurance company was revealed in India.
According to Rajur police in the Indian state of Maharashtra, 54-year-old Prabhakar Bhimaji Waghchaure staged his death last April to collect life insurance – a sum of five million dollars (4.3 million euros) from a US insurance company.
The perpetrator had lived in the US for 20 years and returned home earlier this year. But the insurance company scolded something and asked the police to investigate the case.
According to the investigation, in order to implement his plan, the 54-year-old chose a poor survivor of his mentally retarded, 50-year-old Navnath Yashwant Aanap and then put a cobra to bite him in order to die.
Police found that Waghchaure – now charged with murder – had moved to another house in the same area a few days before directing his death. Two of his relatives found the victim and bought the poisonous cobra from a snake seller.
On April 22, the perpetrator and his accomplices led the 50-year-old rescuer to a deserted area, where they had the cobra bite him on the big toe.
But after transporting the body of the alleged 54-year-old to the morgue, several people from his environment made contradictory statements about his death.
Police intercepted Waghchaure’s phone and found that he was alive and that he had appeared as his own nephew in the morgue to identify the victim. Police arrested the killer and his four accomplices.
It is noteworthy in the case that an insurance company suspected the perpetrator, because four years earlier he had also directed the death of his wife in order to collect life insurance.
