A baby was born having a tail of 12 cm! [VIDEO]

Must read

A baby was born prematurely with a tail growing from its left hindquarters, while at its end was a fleshy ball four centimeters in diameter.

Confused by doctors at Albert Sabin Pediatric Hospital in Fortaleza, Brazil, they surgically cut off the tail and the fleshy ball at its tip.

The birth and the surgery that followed were recorded in the medical review Journal of Pediatric Surgery Case Reports, along with shocking photos of the baby’s tail.

According to it, all people have a tail when we are in the womb, but after a short time after fertilization, it is usually absorbed by the body.

However, in some extremely rare cases this does not happen and the tail continues to grow.

According to doctors from Brazil, the baby’s tail did not contain bones or cartilage and is one of only 40 such cases ever recorded.

According to the report in the medical inspection, the first mention of such a tail dates back to the 19th century. The baby from Brazil was born sometime in January this year and was premature at 35 weeks, but without any serious complications, other than urticaria.

Note that prenatal tests and prenatal ultrasounds failed to detect the tail, but fortunately it was not connected to the baby’s nervous system, according to the Daily Star.

Thus, doctors were able to easily remove the urethra.

The laboratory analysis that followed showed that the ball at the tip of the tail was made of fat and connective tissue, while the tail itself did not contain bones or cartilage inside.

According to the medical review, this is a “rare genetic abnormality”, with scientists agreeing that the reasons why fetal tails in some cases are not absorbed “are not yet fully understood.”
