Police yesterday defused a bomb found in the car of a local politician, a case that the mayor of Rome described as “very serious”.
“A bomb was found in the car of Marco Doria, chairman of the working group to upgrade Rome’s parks and historic buildings,” the mayor, Virginia Raji, tweeted.
“This is a very serious incident, I express my full solidarity,” Ms Raji added.
A unit of police firefighters intervened yesterday afternoon in the district of Rome where the official’s headquarters is located after passing by he noticed in his parked car cables that seemed suspicious, Italian media broadcast, citing sources close to law enforcement services.
The road where the vehicle was parked was blocked and pyrotechnicians neutralized the one that was reportedly an improvised explosive device.
Mr. Doria was already under police protection after receiving threats related to the fact that he staged squatting in historic buildings according to the TGcom24 network.
