In December 2020, the Los Angeles Fire Department was called to a home in Lancaster, California to deal with a possible gas leak. What the firefighters were going to see, however, will probably be etched in their memory forever. Two children, beheaded, in separate rooms, while the rest of their family was inside the house.
The father of two children and gymnast Maurice Taylor, 35, was arrested and charged with the murder of the children of Maliaka Taylor and Maurice Taylor Jr., 13 and 12 respectively.
According to prosecutors, the 35-year-old was accused of beheading his children and forcing the other two, 8 and 9 years old, to look at the bodies and live with them for 5 days.
The murdered children were discovered five days after they were beheaded at their home in California on November 29, 2020.
The mother was arrested almost a year later
This week, and according to the Independent, the case went further as the mother of the children, Natalie Brothwell, was arrested at her home in Arizona, for two counts of murder.
The 44-year-old is being held in Pima County Jail before being extradited to California. It is unclear why police arrested the mother so long after the father was arrested and what her role was in the deaths of her children.
A statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office said, “Firefighters entered the scene and found a man and a woman dead inside the house.” “Both were seriously injured by a knife.”
Brothwell has been charged separately with two counts of child criminal threat. Her children were forced to stay in their rooms without food for several days, according to prosecutors.
Taylor remains in custody on $ 4.2 million bail.
