Moses Kuria, a Gatundu South Legislator, was released by a Kiambaa Court after being arrested with 30 others for violating Ministry of Health Covid-19 protocols.
The outspoken MP, on the other hand, will either pay a Ksh.75,000 fine or serve eight months in prison.
The charges against the lawmaker include failure to wear a mask, violating curfew hours, and unlawful assembly.
The lawmaker had raised an accusatory finger at the state in a Facebook post on Monday, but he had not explained the reason for his arrest. He did, however, post photos of himself without the mask.
“You’ve been arrested! Karuri Police Station is where they are being held. Kiambu Court will be held tomorrow. Still- #MeneMeneTekel #FinishAndGo,” he wrote alongside the photos.
Following his arrest, the MP and other protocol violators were detained at Karuri police station, where they appeared in court, albeit virtually, on Tuesday morning.
