A lawyer organized his murder to collect security for his son

Must read

A prominent lawyer, whose wife and son were murdered in June, turned himself in to police today, accusing him of plotting his own death in order to commit insurance fraud.

At the heart of this bizarre case, which Americans are watching with bated breath, is 53-year-old Alex Murdou, who showed up late this morning at the Hampton County Detention Center in South Carolina.Remaining Time-0:00FullscreenMute

The lawyer denies any involvement in the deaths of his wife, Maggie, and his son, Paul, 22. A mother and son were found dead, shot by bullets, on June 7, outside the hunting lodge maintained by the family.

Murdo admits, however, that he asked a former client to kill him so that his remaining son could receive $ 10 million in compensation from the insurance company. The “atzamis” near-murderer shot him in the head on September 4, but the lawyer survived.

His surrender to authorities is linked to this attempt to defraud his insurance company, said his attorney, Jim Griffin.

But the problems of Alex Mardow, who has been addicted to opioids for 20 years, do not stop there. Following these revelations, the police launched an investigation against him for abuse by the law firm for which he worked but also for the death of his domestic helper, in 2018. At that time, Mardow had claimed that Gloria Sutherfield, who He worked for the family for 20 years, fell down the stairs after stumbling on his dog. Her death was not suspected. At the request of the county medical examiner and with the information gathered by the authorities in the other cases in which Murdow is involved, the police finally decided to investigate Sutherfield’s death.

It is also known that the investigation into the death of a young man, 19-year-old Steven Smith, who was found dead in 2015 on the street, near Murdou’s house, has resumed since June. Smith had apparently been seduced by a car. Police said they made the decision because of information gathered during the investigation into the murders of Maggie and Paul Murdow, without giving further details.

The fact that Murdo comes from a family of well-known lawyers and prosecutors sparked speculation in the press that the authorities had attempted to cover up these cases. Local media also recalled that Paul Murdou had a boat accident in 2019, in which a young girl was killed. Although he was prosecuted for driving the boat intoxicated and causing her death, no date was ever set for his trial. Upon his death, the case was dropped.
