Wafula Chebukati, Chairman of the IEBC, declared there was “no contest” and declared Haji “duly elected as the Senator of Garissa County.”
In his inaugural address, Haji thanked members for their assistance to his family following his father’s death.
He said, holding back tears, that his family still receives messages from his father’s friends, telling them how much his father meant to them.
“I realized this morning that the holy month of Ramadhan has begun. It will be the first holy month without my father in my life,” he said.
