Dr Ruto is one of the leaders and politicians who have stated their intention to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022, and Ms Wahome believes that those who will assist Dr Ruto in flying the presidential flag will be from Central Kenya.
“It is no secret that the Mount Kenya community has a high voter turnout; I assure the nation that Dr Ruto will nominate a co-candidate from the area,” said the MP.
She stated this in an interview with Inooro television station that broadcasts Gikuyu.
Wahome’s remarks come as ODM leader Raila Odinga, through Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, discusses the possibility of forming a political wing.
However, the Deputy President denied the allegations, claiming that it was not the first time he had met with Mr Oparanya to discuss development projects.
“Dr. Ruto is Kenya’s Deputy President, and he has the authority to discuss strategies for improving the country and visionary leaders.” What I understand about him is that he does not require ethnic alliances, but rather a coalition that will bring Kenyans and communities together in order to improve their lives and development, ”Ms Wahome said.
Dr. Ruto and Mr. Odinga were on the same political wing in the 2007 general election, where the ODM leader clashed with (Retired) President Mwai Kibaki.
President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga announced in March 2018 that they would bury their political differences through popular greetings known as Handshake.
The ODM leader has been collaborating closely with the ruling Jubilee government, a move that has shown to exclude Deputy President Dr Ruto from key decisions.
Dr. Ruto has criticized the Reconciliation Program (BBI) report, which was initiated by President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga and proposes amending the current Constitution.
Odinga’s supporters have claimed that there was a plot to keep him out of the BBI Bill, a move that has been seen as contributing to the deterioration of the ODM leader’s relationship with President Kenyatta.
