Angry Boda boda operators protest against company harassment

Must read

Angry bodaboda operators demonstrated in Mutindwa-Imenti town protested what they describe as unfair treatment by Wetu credit company in motorcycle theft cases.

According to the chairman of Meru county united riders Sacco, the members were demanding that when a motorcycle is stolen and the insurance firm pays wetu credit, the owner should be given a replacement motorcycle.

“I was on my way to another meeting when I received an unexpected call. What I see here is incomprehensible because a bodaboda operator paid Ksh 15,000 for the installation of insurance and tracking.

However, when a motorcycle is stolen, the insurance company investigates and determines that theft occurred, and it is obligated to pay. When it agrees to pay, the money is transferred to the motorcycle company, which is Wetu credit, rather than to the customer.

The company takes its cut and gives the remainder to the customer. If the customer had paid for five or six months, the money is gone. In this case, for example, the insurance company paid, but the owner received Ksh 3700 via Mpesa.

We’re not sure how the money will help the owner. The motorcycle company told the owner to sort himself out. We demand that when a motorcycle is stolen and the insurance company pays wetu credit, the owner should be issued a replacement motorcycle,” John Barasa told BAITETV.
