At least eight people have been killed in a rocket-propelled grenade attack in the town of Marib, for which local and military officials have blamed the Houthis.
An official said Houthi forces, trying to seize the gas-rich Marib, fired a rocket and a drone. An army spokesman later told Al Hadath television that two rockets hit a residential area and a market, and that two drones were fired.
Medical sources told Reuters that five people had been taken to hospital and more than 15 injured. Another military spokesman told Al Hadath that at least eight people were killed.
The Houthis, who have launched an offensive to seize the last stronghold of the internationally recognized government in northern Yemen, have not claimed responsibility for the attack.
“The rockets landed in a residential neighborhood and in a commercial market. “There is absolutely no military activity there,” army spokesman Yahya al-Khatmi told Al Hadath.
He also noted that one drone was shot down and the other exploded in the air.
