“Black Widow”: The story of the woman who killed her lovers with hydrocyanic acid

Must read

The “Black Widow” operation began in 2007 when she was 61 years old.

However, the police authorities tracked her down after the murder of 75-year-old Isao Kakehi. Authorities launched an investigation and arrested her in 2014

Isao Kakehi, 75, in 2013 was in good health and declared in love. It was then that a new relationship began with 67-year-old widow Chisako Kakehi.

The two met through a Japanese neighborhood office. Their love led them to church after two months.

The couple started a seemingly happy life in Muko, Kyoto , where they made rice cakes for the New Year holidays.

But the 75-year-old did not live to see the new year. On December 28, he was assassinated by the “Black Widow” – “Black Widow” of Japan.

The 74-year-old woman is currently being held in a death row ward as she was convicted of both the murders of three of her comrades and the attempted murder of a quarter.

The action of the “Black Widow” began in 2007 when she was 61 years old.

However, the police authorities tracked her down after the murder of 75-year-old Isao Kakehi. Authorities launched an investigation and arrested her in 2014.

The “Black Widow” in 2017 was before the court. This was followed by her death sentence and in June 2021 Chisako Kakeh appealed her sentence without success.

“She used a neighborhood office to get to know the elderly victims one by one and poisoned them after making them trust her ,” the judge said in a June ruling, according to the public broadcaster NHK. “It is a ruthless crime based on a planned and powerful murderous intent,” he added.

Little is known about her life

Meanwhile, according to CNN, very little has been revealed about the identity of Chisako Kokehi.

He was born in the Southwest Saga of Japan and worked in a printing house. He married for the first time in 1969 at the age of 23, according to   Asahi news.

Their marriage lasted 25 years. In 1994 her husband fell ill and died. Until 2007 , the “Black Widow” had a relationship with 78-year-old Toshiaki Suehiro .

On the afternoon of December 18, 2007, Kakehi had lunch with Suehiro and his children.

The Suehirohe was taking health supplements – making it easier for Kakehi to disguise a cyanide capsule as one of his pills and give it to him, according to the court ruling.

In less than 15 minutes the man lost consciousness and fell unconscious. When an ambulance arrived to take him to the hospital he was having difficulty breathing.

The “Black Widow” accompanied him to the hospital. However, she did not reveal her true details. She did the same with her partner’s family.

He said it was called “Hiraoka”. Doctors determined that the man was one step closer to death as he had suffered internal suffocation.

Nevertheless, Suehiro survived and, as he stated in the court decision, suffered “incurable higher dysfunction and visual dysfunction”, the court decision stated.

He died after 1.5 years of an unrelated illness, according to Asahi News. A few years later, Kakehi had found her next victim.

The second victim

The 71-year-old Masanori Honda until 2011 had diabetes. Ostocho had retired in a “mild condition” and the 71-year-old was going to sports clubs.

At the same time he had a relationship with the “Black Widow”. It may not be known when they had sex but the two told friends they were planning to get married.

In the spring of 2012 the “Black Widow”made her next move. On March 9, he met the elderly man in a shop and then they parted ways.

At about 5:00 pm that day, the elderly man lost consciousness while riding his motorcycle. Two hours later, doctors confirmed his death.

Research has shown that the “Black Widow” did not plan to stay with Honda for years. It is indicative that shortly before his death he started dating other men through a dating agency.

The cancer survivor

Minoru Hioki, 75, has struggled with loneliness and recurrence of lung cancer in recent years.

But by July 2013, his life was taking a turn for the worse: His cancer had been almost completely treated with radiotherapy and he was “in good health,” according to a court ruling.

Somewhere there everything changed. Until August 2012, he appeared to be devoted to the “Black Widow”.

In fact, he wrote to her in an email that he wanted them to “stay together forever”. The two were close while they often ate together and spent the night at each other’s house.

Their relationship was to end on September 20 when they went out to eat. Hioki, like Kakehi’s second husband, Suehiro, often took health supplements in pill form.

It was much easier for Kakehi to give him a cyanide pill “under the guise of a healthy diet,” the ruling said.

As soon as they finished their meal, Hioki lost consciousness. Until an ambulance arrived, he was “breathing hard and panting.”

When the ambulance arrived, the “Black Widow” lied to the rescuers about his family situation.

In particular, he claimed that the 75-year-old had cancer in the final stage of lung cancer and had no relatives.

When the ambulance crew told her about the resuscitation process she refused. Hioki died within two hours.

The “Black Widow” did not stop there and continued to look for her next victim. Two months later she married   Isao Kakehi.

According to the court decision, a month after the marriage, she started dating another man.

Kakehi was excited with his wife and in email conversations she said she wanted to “do the best they can to enjoy a brilliant second life and live long.”

However, a few weeks later he suffered a cardiopulmonary arrest shortly after dinner at home with his new wife.

She called the ambulance, which took him to the hospital. But the 75-year-old died an hour later.

His death opened the bag of Aeolus and the police started investigations which ended in revealing it.

His death was considered suspicious and his body was examined by a medical examiner.

Examinations showed that there were lethal amounts of cyanide ions in his heart, blood and stomach, as well as corrosion in his stomach.

During searches, police found health supplement pills and empty capsules in her apartment.

In August 2014, the police found a pot and inside it was a plastic bag with traces of hydrocyanic acid.

According to the court decision, the “Black Widow” found the hydrocyanic acid in the printing house where she worked.

Two months later she was arrested and after interrogations she confessed to her actions.

According to the NHK, although the police believed that she was involved in other murders, the prosecutor’s office decided that she should not be charged due to insufficient evidence.

Who was the audience that connected its victims?

The four victims may have lived in different cities, done different jobs and had nothing to do with each other, but they had one thing in common.

All four had savings and property. This along with the fact that they were old in age made them goals.

As noted in the court decision the first poisoning was done for a debt. The “Black Widow” owed Suehiro about $ 437,000. Chisako Kakehi “believed she would kill him and avoid repayment.”

Two months later he wrote a letter to his children stating that he had repaid the amount he owed as he had used “another man’s inheritance”.

His children were shocked as they did not know her and when they tried to ask her more, she “left silently”, leaving them without answers about the collapse of their father or his mysterious partner.

It is noted that at that time it is not clear what her financial situation was. “She was blatantly unaware of human life for her own financial desire,” the court said in its ruling.

The “Black Widow”earned about $ 145,000 from Honda while it is not specified how much money he got from the other men he had a relationship with.

According to Asahi News, he earned a total of $ 4.5 million from the inheritances. Some other estimates suggest that this amount even reaches $ 7.3 million.

However, it is not clear why the “Black Widow” continued to kill men she met through dating agencies even after raising millions of dollars.

According to the court, Kakehi “took advantage” of the trust shown to her by her victims and then committed the murders.

In fact, although she confessed to her actions, she did not apologize to the families of her victims. As the decision noted, it showed a lack of “honest self-determination”.

The appeal

Her defense line appealed by clicking on inconsistencies in her testimony. They even claimed that he suffered from dementia.

However, the appeal was rejected. No execution date has been announced at this time. By law, convicts must be executed within six months of hearing their sentence.

It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post.

On the other hand, her situation created a different picture. This is because during the trial the “Black Widow”  appeared confused and tired.

Her hair has turned white over the years since her conception in 2014, and her hearing has deteriorated.

With the allegations of dementia as well as the extra alleged murders she was never charged with we may never know what really happened or what was it that prompted her to kill her comrades.
