Burieruri High School in Meru County has over the years continued to post good results in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
The school produced 3 students with A- (minus), this year.
According to the results, 112 students obtained the direct university admission requirement with 3 scoring A-, 18 (B+), 20 (B), 31 (B-), 40 (C+), eight (D+) and three D.
Burieruri attained a mean score of 7.2 compared to last year’s 6.4
A look at the school’s performance over the years reveals that it is consistently ranked among top performers in national examinations.
The class of 2020 performed even better registering a mean score of 7.2 breaking the previous record set by the 2019 class of 6.4.
The institution reputed for its discipline background in the county.
Burieruri High School Principal Moshe Musyoka said compared to last year, the results were a major improvement.
“We are very pleased with the KCSE 2020 results that have been posted in the school. We give thanks to God because he has led us in the right path. We also thank the management team, the community, and the teacher for their assistance,” he said.
“We began with a mean score of 4.4, then 6.4, and now 7.2. Many students were sent home as a result of the pandemic, and we are grateful that when they returned to school on May 23, 2020, they were prepared.
“There was speculation that candidates would fail as a result of fear and the pandemic. Teachers were confident that their students would succeed.
“Despite the challenges, the board of directors, workers, and teachers were able to collaborate, resulting in an excellent performance.
A teacher told BaiteTv that when the principal was transferred to the school in 2018, the teachers faced difficulties such as the control of the students’ lack of discipline.
She said that it has become difficult for teachers to teach because of drug and substance abuse in the school.
“The discipline was so poor that students received poor grades that year. To overcome the challenge, we collaborated with the school board of management and workers to find a mutually beneficial solution,” she said.
“Burierurie boys must reclaim their lost glory of high grades and newspaper coverage. Our goal is to achieve a mean score of 9 or higher.
“We had hoped for a mean of 8.0 for the KCSE 2020 results, but we are grateful for the school’s discipline being restored. Without being persuaded, the candidates used to request exams for revision.
“We congratulate the KCSE class of 2020 and urge the remaining students who returned to school today to be patient as we implement a strategy that will help us meet our goal,” she said.
The deputy principal was pleased with the results of the KCSE 2020. He said that candidates maintained strict discipline and listened to their advice, which resulted in an early completion of the syllabus which aided in the continuous and repetitive revision.
“We worked as a team all hours of the day and night,” he said.
Meanwhile, sleeping academic giant Miathane Boys in Tigania-West made a surprise come back edging out traditional champions.
The school posted a mean score of 6.753, up from 5.8206 the previous year, with a division of 0.9347.
The school did not post an A (plain), but posted two A- (minus), as well as 15 B+ (plus), 28 B (plain), 38 B- (minus), 64 C+ (plus), 76 C (plain), 44 C- (minus), 9 D+ (plus), 5 D (plain), and 1 D- (plain).
