“When I arrived on the scene, I discovered that the car had crashed into a pile of soil and caught fire. We started looking for solutions to extinguish the fire with the help of bystanders. The car had only one occupant, the driver, who got out and collapsed,” said an eyewitness.

According to Mwangi, an eyewitness, the road is under construction and prone to accidents, thanks to the National government. He urged drivers to exercise caution while on the road.

Meanwhile, a 13-year-old girl who is mentally challenged from Nuu in Mwingi Central, Kitui county is counting weeks to becoming a mother, not by choice as she was allegedly defiled by her uncle.

According to Stella, not her real name, who used to live with her grandmother, she has endured defilement for the past 2 years while her grandmother was away.

Stella says her uncle used to defile her whenever her grandmother stepped out to go to the farm. She was forced to keep quiet about the issue because she had been threatened by the perpetrator.

Stella’s mother reported the case to Nuu police station and the perpetrator was arrested but his husband bailed him out and chased her from her matrimonial home.

She is now living at her friend’s home in Nguni together with Stella and her 1-year-old boy. According to her friend, the husband threatened to beat the mother if she goes back to her matrimonial home so they have been living together in her single muddy walled room.

Stella’s mother is now crying for justice for her 13-year-old girl as defilement cases have escalated in most parts of Kitui county despite the efforts being put in by the government to ensure that children are protected against pedophiles.

The laxity of police and the local administration to act against pedophiles especially after what is suspected to be bribery has also seen many criminals walk scot-free even after ruining the future of many girls.
