One suspect has been arrested, 180 litres of muna and 5 litres of chang’aa seized in a crackdown at Kibera and Majengo villages within Magundu sublocation in Imenti sub-county.
Ntakira senior chief Jonh Mwenda told Baite Tv that Magundu sublocation includes the villages of Kibera and Majengo which are slums and are notorious for illicit brew, out of thirty villages in the location.
He said that there were various types of challenges where slums exist as a result of informal settlements.
“We have camped here to ensure that cases of illegal drew drop and that our children can remain in a drug-free zone. We’ve been conducting raids since last year, and we’re pleased to see that the number of cases is decreasing.
The search was successful today, and we were able to confiscate 9 barrels of ‘Muna,’ a raw material used in the preparation of chang’aa. We also seized 5 liters of chang’aa and apprehended one suspected illicit brew dealer.
The dealers are aware of our year-long raids. We collaborated with village elders and assistant chiefs to apprehend the perpetrators. The collaborative effort demonstrates our seriousness.
We are warning those who refuse to stop selling illicit brew that they will be apprehended and brought to court to face charges. We are pleased that more dealers are leaving the business, but there are still a few who have not given up,” said John Mwenda.
