The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security chaired by Member of Parliament for Limuru Hon. Peter Mwathi today met the Chief Administrative Assistant (CAS) Interior Hon. Hussein Dado and petitioners in two petitions under consideration before the Committee.
In the first petition, Mr. Isaac Ng’aru petitioned the National Assembly to have the National Prayer Day included as a public holiday in Kenya.
The petitioner applauded Members of Parliament for their commitment in holding the annual event. He also said that he was convinced that the rest of the citizenry seek involvement in the prayers noting that this can be achieved by making this day a public holiday.
In the second petition, Mr. Samuel Karumbi petitioned the House seeking compensation for the loss of family property destroyed as a result of skirmishes that occured in Githunguri, Kiambu County in 1997.
According to Mr. Karumbi, disputes arose following KANU party nominations. This he says, “led to politically instigated skirmishes in which thugs burnt three houses, a new pick up and uprooted bananas and maize from the farm”.
The petitioners mother was also maimed during these attacks.
