“In this regard, the KRA must take into account the prevailing situation, as it has not only affected the statutory remittances but also the payment of contractors and compensation for members of county assemblies,” Board of Governors Chairman Martin Wambora statement read on Monday, April 19.
“The Council will convene a meeting with the Commissioner-General, Kenya Revenue Authority to find an amicable solution to the problem, as we are aware that non-payment of statutory withholdings affects the collection of taxes,” Wambora explained.
“County governments are currently working to supplement the current capacity of oxygen and intensive care beds,” the statement said, adding that the county governments currently owed three months of equitable equity funds.
“The Nakuru County Health Department has come under tremendous pressure due to the number of people who have turned positive and are in need of medical attention. All of the county’s intensive care unit (ICU) beds are full and in the past three to four days we have had to transfer patients out of Nakuru, ”Governor Kinyanjui said on April 3.
