Prof. George Magoha, Cabinet Secretary for Education, has announced the completion of marking for the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
“The marking process for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination, which began three weeks ago, has officially concluded today.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the dedicated examiners and a dedicated team of Ministry of Education and Teachers Service Commission officials who worked tirelessly to ensure that this exercise, which took place in 35 centres across the country, was well executed,” Magoha said.
On Friday, the CS was speaking while overseeing the conclusion of the KCSE marking exercise at Starehe Boys Center.
Prof. Magoha stated that the ministry will immediately begin planning to have students sit for the 2021 national examinations by the end of this year.
He stated that his ministry is working around the clock to make up for the time lost due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and he urged ministry personnel to prepare for a marathon.
Simultaneously, CS Magoha detailed the term three school opening calendar. Except for those in grade 4, who will remain at home until the 26th of July, all Learners are expected to resume classes on Monday of next week.
“I would like to emphasize that students in Grade Four will remain at home until July 26th, 2021, when schools will reopen for the First Term of the 2021 Academic Calendar. This is necessary because the Grade Four students were among the first to be reopened in the first case of the phased resumption of learning following the closure of COVID-19 in October 2020,” he explained.
Prof. Magoha has warned that any school that violates the stipulated calendar by recalling Grade 4 students before July 26 will face severe consequences.
“We have received reports that some private schools are planning to recall Grade Four students along with other groups that are scheduled to begin on Monday. Such schools must abandon this plan and allow all public and private educational institutions to follow the prescribed calendar. Schools that reopen for Grade Four students will face severe consequences. The Grade Four students must be allowed to study at home until they enter Grade 5 on July 26, 2021, according to the CS.
Meanwhile, the Education CS reports that the government has released Ksh.7.5 billion to secondary schools ahead of the reopening of the schools. He also stated that the Ministry of Education has asked the National Treasury for an additional Ksh.13 billion for secondary schools and Ksh.2.8 billion for primary schools.
