Explosive device explodes on bus carrying local team mission, Kismayo – No one has claimed responsibility for the attack
At least five footballers have been killed and 12 others injured in an explosion Friday in the southern Somali port of Kismayo , a police officer has confirmed.
The Mohammed Gkioulent Hassan , deputy commander of regional police forces Tzoumpalant told the VOA Somali that the explosion was caused by a bomb placed on a bus carrying local football team.
The bomb “apparently was placed on the bus carrying young players to watch a football tournament, which opened in the city. “Five of them were killed and another 12 were taken to hospital,” Hassan said.
“We have confirmed five deaths and at least 12 are injured. “There are also missing people,” Ahmed Farah , a senior Somali police official, told Reuters.
So far no one has claimed responsibility for the attack , but the police chief and the country’s president Mohammed Abdullah
The motive for the attack remains unknown. The attack came a day after a Jubaland state assembly meeting in Kismayo and the election of four members of the country’s upper house of parliament.
