Did This Leak Just Accidentally Reveal Raila’s Running Mate?

Must read

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary, Peter Munya, has revisited the claims of July 2019 assassination against Deputy President William Ruto noting that he can never work with him.

Speaking over the weekend at a hotel in Meru, Munya ruled out any chance of supporting the Deputy President, who has expressed interest in the Presidency ahead of the 2022 General Election.

The CS argued that it was absurd he could be expected to be the running mate of a person who accused him of plotting his assassination.

“How can I work with someone who once accused me of planning to kill him? That can never happen,” stated Munya.

The CS further noted that he is open to deputising former Prime Minister Raila Odinga whose ideas he termed as visionary.

“If I’m offered the position of Raila’s running mate, I’m okay with it,” declared Munya.

He spoke at an event attended by Meru Governor, Kiraitu Murungi, and his Tharaka Nithi counterpart, Muthomi Njuki.

In 2019, before the assassination attempts claims surfaced, Munya and Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Waiguru, were serious contenders for Ruto’s running mates according to experts.

The situation, however, changed in July of that year when a forged letter sparked a national debate over Ruto’s security as three Cabinet Secretaries, Peter Munya (then in charge of Trade), Joe Mucheru (ICT) and Sicily Kariuki (Health) were summoned to the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road.

Questions were raised over the infamous La Mada Hotel’s meeting as MPs from Kieleweke and Tanga Tanga factions lashed at each other.

Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, became the enemy to DP Ruto’s allies, who accused him of organizing the La Mada meetings.
