ODM is in danger of losing its popularity in Kakamega County due to a dispute over the division of various positions in the party’s branches.
As a result of these differences, the politicians have called on Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and his deputy Philip Kutima, who is the party’s chairman in the county, to intervene to ensure that the posts are evenly distributed.
Kakamega County has only two ODM MPs namely Justus Kizito of Shinyalu and Johnstone Naicca of Mumias West.
“We are not happy with the way ODM youth leader in Kakamega Moffat Mandela and Secretary Nabii Nabwera are handling the party’s affairs. Their style of leadership is killing the party’s reputation, ”said former Mumias West sub-branch chairman Suleiman Odanga.

The politician and his colleague Raziah Makokha claim that the smaller branches of Matungu and Mumias West were oppressed by being deprived of key positions while they were strongholds of ODM Kakamega.
“Mumias West has had an ODM MP since the party was formed. Therefore, we should be handed over the position of chairman or secretary general in the county instead of just giving delegates, ”said Mr Odanga.
The new ODM leaders are Mr Kizito who has been appointed chairman while Lucas Radoli from Mumias East is the Deputy Chairman.
The Secretary General is Nabii Nabwera (Lugari), Treasurer, Geoffrey Ommatera (Kwisero), Executive Secretary Naomi Shiyonga (Malava) and Mr Mandela from Mumias East remained the youth leader.
Mr Makokha said it was unfortunate that the posts of youth leader and deputy chairman went to Mumias East which had not provided an ODM MP since Mr Washiali moved to the ANC and Jubilee in 2013 and 2017 respectively.
