Early indicators suggest Kiraitu's Gubernatorial Seat is in jeopardy

Despite having enjoyed good relationship at their youthful days with Kiraitu admitting that he once saved Raila’s life by persuading him to abandon his hunger strike while in jail,the two parted ways on issues of national politics. Kiraitu will thereafter be a fierce critic of the former PM.

In his own admission,he revealed how they turned the Mt Kenya region against Raila by demonising his public image.

This was a successful vendetta as Raila’s popularity in the area was negatively affected hence contributing to his three consecutive loses in his bid for presidency.

Up to now, Kiraitu believes that the ground is still hostile to the ODM leader but surprisingly,he has declared his support to him.

His earlier pronouncements appears to haunt him as it remains unclear on whether the same people who were made to hate Raila will change their mind.

Already, there are speculations that Mr Kiraitu was coerced by government operatives to change his loyalty in favour of Raila.

Previously,he had declared his support to the national assembly speaker Justin Muturi who has also declared to vie for the top seat.

With the Mt Kenya electorates hostile to Raila’s candidature,he risks loosing the gubernatorial seat that he is planning to defend for a second term.

Allegations that he may opt to support DP Ruto in last hours to save his political career has also brought doubts on his loyalty to Raila.

Earlier on,the governor had already declared that the ruling party, Jubilee is defunct with no chances of winning by a candidate who shall use its ticket.

The remarks came after the party had announced its intentions to merge with ODM for the 2022 elections.
