A farmhand raped a woman in Meru County.
The victim reported to Baite TV that the farmworker ambushed her when she was working on her farm in Lubuathirwa, Tigania in Meru County.
According to the victim, he beat her badly on all parts of her body before raping her. She is now urging the authorities to take her to the hospital. She said that she not only suffers from the effects of the rape, but also from the beating.
“From behind, he pounced and punched me in the face. As I continued to take blows, I turned around to face him. He threw me down and strangled my neck,” said the victim.
“He raped me several times and then left me vomiting blood as a result of the blows. When I went around informing residents about the incident, they identified the suspect as a farmhand employed by one of the residents based on the description I gave them,” said the victim.

According to a resident, when the victim reported the incident, he informed the other members of Nyumba Kumi, who devised a strategy to apprehend the suspect.
“Before apprehending the suspect, we made a call to his employer but unfortunately, the call did not go through. We surrounded the house but the suspect learned of our plan to apprehend him and escaped. I once saw the suspect drinking illegal brew, but we never spoke,” he said.
According to the assistant chief, the suspect was hired as a farmhand by a teacher.
“The incident was reported to me by the area manager. I request that the teacher assist the police in apprehending the suspect because he will eventually be taken into custody and brought before a court to face the full force of the law for the crime he committed “said the assistant chief.
Fear has spread among women working on farms who are afraid of becoming the next victims of rape.
