The move by Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi to appear publicly outraged by ODM leader Raila Odinga over the 2022 presidential race has raised many questions.
Informants say the differences between Mr Mudavadi and Mr Odinga are politically motivated.
Mudavadi is well aware that he will not be Mr Odinga’s running mate and if he decides to support him he will have to be the campaign manager again, “said Mr Bigambo.
There have been allegations that President Uhuru Kenyatta has been pressuring the leaders of the One Kenya Alliance (OKA); Mr Mudavadi, Mr Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Mr Gideon Moi (Kanu), Mr Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya) and Mr Cyrus Jirongo (UDP) have backed Mr Odinga.
“Leaders should not be forced to support a particular presidential candidate,” said Mudavadi.
The ANC leader’s statement appears to refer to President Kenyatta who has been meeting privately with OKA leaders and Mr Odinga to discuss legacy politics in 2022.
At the Wiper Conference on Thursday, Mr Mudavadi appeared to greet Mr Odinga by the side – a situation that sparked heated debate on social media about the essence of their differences.
After the ceremony, Mr Musalia posted pictures of several leaders who attended on social media wall but failed to post Mr Odinga.
The ANC also did not post pictures of Mr Odinga on its social media. Despite the two politicians collaborating politically in 2007 and in 2017, Mr Mudavadi has now publicly expressed his anger against Mr Odinga while insisting that his name must be debated.
Some observers have suggested that if Mr Mudavadi is in 2022, he will divide the Western vote and deprive Mr Odinga of his victory. 70% of Mulembe votes.
Shinyalu MP Justus Kizito says Mr Mudavadi seems outraged by Mr Odinga’s refusal to support him in 2022.
“Even if it is to help him, how can you benefit someone who has no support even in his castle and his allies are watching over Ruto day and night with you, “said Kizito.
“We do not know his goal is to divide the Western vote the way he did in 2013 and then form a government with Ruto but we will not agree to go that way, ” he added.
“If you look closely, Mudavadi will make the decision to go to the bank against Kalonzo, Wetangula, Moi and Jironga who may have been persuaded to support Raila in the future and a huge financial contribution to those campaigns, ” claims Mr Andati, who served on the Nasa secretariat.
He alleges that Mr Mudavadi has not been reimbursed for his NASA campaign even after Mr Odinga made an appointment with President Kenyatta.
He maintains that if the ANC leader does not stand in 2022, then that will be the end of his political career.
“The problem is that Musalia does not trust Raila anymore and aims to build his empire even if he does not win. Because he stumbled on 2002 and 2013, the 2022 elections will give him more political life than Raila who is also a moving age, “said Professor Munene.
Professor Munene added that Mudavadi is not like Kalonzo who changes his political position from time to time and is unpredictable.
