” We sent law enforcement forces on Saturday ” to the area to restore calm, said Abdraman Koulamala, a government spokesman.

Conflicts between tribes or communities are common in central and southern Chad, where many residents carry weapons. Episodes usually erupt between nomadic Arab cattle breeders and indigenous farmers, who accuse the former of destroying their fields to feed.

Contacts are being made with “representatives of the two communities to put an end to this ever-recurring conflict ,” the provincial governor said.

For his part, the government spokesman said that the authorities ” proceeded to the complete disarmament of the civilians ” and added that there was a “reconciliation” of the two sides and ” calm has been fully restored ” in the area.

Clashes between farmers and ranchers killed 11 people in December and another 35 in February in southern Chad.
