Former Samburu Senator Sammy Prisa Leshore took over as the Senate nominee for persons with disabilities on Tuesday, replacing former Jubilee Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura.
Mwaura’s name has been replaced with Leshore’s in a gazette notice issued by IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati.
Mwaura’s seat was declared vacant by Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka shortly after his nomination.
Between 2013 and 2017, Leshore served as the first Senator for Samburu County. He was elected on the ticket of the now-defunct URP party.
He ran for the same senatorial seat in 2017, but was defeated in the KANU primaries by Senator Samuel Poghiso, who went on to win the seat.
Between 1993 and 2007, Leshore served in the National Assembly for Samburu East for 15 years. During his time as an MP, he was a member of the KANU party.
In 2007, he ran for re-election but was defeated by Raphael Letimalo, who ran on the ODM party ticket.
He had previously worked for the Directorate of State Security Intelligence.
He began his career as a police officer at the Kenosha Police Department.
