Former South African President sentenced to 15 months in prison

Must read

Former South African President Jacob Zuma has been sentenced to 15 months in prison by the country’s highest court.

The Constitutional Court found him guilty of ignoring the court’s order to appear in a corruption probe while he was president

President of the country from 2009 until his resignation, in 2018 Zuma faced many court adventures. In his day, businessmen were accused of conspiring with politicians to influence the decision-making process.

In 2005 he was charged with raping a 31-year-old, but was later acquitted (2006).

In addition, he was accused of embezzlement and corruption, resulting from the conviction of his financial adviser, Samir Shayk, for corruption and fraud.

On April 6, 2009, the Prosecutor’s Office decided to acquit Zuma of political charges .

The former president made a one-of-a-kind appearance in court, but then refused to appear again. Investigators – led by Judge Raymond Zondo – have called on the Constitutional Court to intervene.

It is not clear whether Zuma will be arrested , after the imposition of a sentence against him, writes the BBC.

In another case, Zuma pleaded not guilty last month to a corruption case involving a $ 5 billion arms deal since the 1990s.
