Four people died on the spot and 12 others sustained serious injuries on Sunday in a road accident involving an 11-seater matatu and a Toyota Wish at Maltauro area along the Narok-Mai Mahiu Highway.

According to Narok County Police Commander John Kizito, the 4 pm accident occurred when the Toyota Wish motor vehicle registration number KCN 490V that was driving from Narok town direction collided with a matatu vehicle belonging to Crested Galaxy registration number KDA 746X that was moving from the opposite direction.

“The accident happened after the Toyota Wish overtook carelessly thereby colliding head-on with the matatu which was oncoming from the opposite direction,” Kizito explained.

However, according to eyewitnesses, the Toyota Wish driver was trying to avoid a drunk man who was crossing the road causing the accident.

As a result of the accident, the driver of the Wish and two of his passengers died. A female passenger from the matatu also lost her life in the grisly accident.

The injured, he said, were rushed to Narok County Referral Hospital for treatment while the four bodies were also taken to the same facility’s mortuary.

The wreckage at the scene according to the Police Commander was processed and thereafter taken to the station for further inspection.
