Frustration as locals travel long distances to collect Huduma Number

Must read

Residents of Giantonjara are expected to pick up their cards from Ruiri at the assitant chief’s office in Kiruai. It costs Ksh 150 to travel from Giantonjara to Ruiri and back.

Due to long distances and transportation costs, residents are finding it difficult to collect their Huduma number cards.

Peter Kiambi, the area manager in Giantonjara unit told BaiteTv that Giantonjara residents own small parcels of land, and they cannot afford to harvest enough produce to sell in order to cover the cost of transportation.

“I urge the government to make huduma number collection available to all assistant chiefs’ offices.

School fees and other factors must be prioritized by residents. Although elephants have not yet been seen recently destroying crops, they could do so at any time.

Locals rely on manual labor jobs, where they can earn Ksh 300 per day. Pesticides are used in farming nowadays hence the wages are not consistent.

I have a list with me of 121 people whose Huduma number cards are due to be collected on Tuesday. We don’t know when the person tasked with delivering the Huduma number cards will return,” he told BaiteTv
