The Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security chaired by Hon. Peter Mwathi this morning considered the following:
A report on a public petition regarding lack of access to citizen registration services by Hon. Aden Duale on behalf of residents of Garissa and Wajir counties.
The petitioners stated that many Kenyans residing in the two counties have been denied registration and identification documents thereby rendering them stateless and unable to access government services.
A report on petition regarding amendment of the Firearms Act. According to the petitioner, Dr. Mareko Machanga the Firearms Act has several inadequacies including; the Act lacks provisions requiring applicants for firearm licenses to undergo mandatory mental examination, lacks regulations stipulating the circumstances under which a legal firearm holder could use his or her firearm and under the current law the aggressor enjoys more protection than the aggressed.
A report on public petition regarding recognition of the Pemba people of Kenya as citizens of the Republic of Kenya by Hon. Owen Baya on behalf of the Pemba people. In the submission by the petitioners, the continued failure by the Government to recognize them as citizens has caused them anguish and inconvenience.
The Committee is expected to adopt these Reports and report to the House in accordance with Standing Order No. 227 (1) of the National Assembly Standing Orders.
