Government Launches the Kenya Gun Industry

President Uhuru Kenyatta has launched a weapon production line in Ruiru.

This, he says, will help in national monetary and technological headway.

“Covid-19 has taught us that international supply chains are vulnerable to disruption. We add another arrow to our security quiver. This sets stage for the progressive domestic manufacture of security equipment used by our nation,” he said

Uhuru was talking at the National Security Industries, Ruiru where he authorized the Sh4 billion weapon manufacturing plant.

Kenya has fabricated around 12,000 riffles with 60% of the segments being privately produced.

“Over the course of the following year, we expect to expand to incorporate 9 mm guns and 7.62 attack riffles,” Uhuru said.

He was joined by Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and a couple of government individuals.

Uhuru said the activity will address the significant expense of weapons obtaining and give the security industry freedom and permit Kenya to deliver excellent weapons.

“By wandering into this, we look for confidence and fortifying of local abilities extending to good employment opportunities for our citizens,” he said.

Uhuru said Kenya stands to propel human resources and fuel the modernisation for iron assembling.

“The excursion won’t be a simple one. It needs speculation of cash, preparing and fabricating gear,” he said.

The Small Arms Manufacturing plant project is pointed toward improving the country’s confidence through local creation of safety security.
