Governor Anne Waiguru: I am not ready to be anyone’s running mate

Must read

There are posters that have placed Kirinyaga County Governor Ann Waiguru as running mate to various presidential candidates. The governor said that she has not sought with any leader to discuss such plans, saying that currently all her efforts are geared towards defending her gubernatorial seat.

Speaking at Kerugoya  Catholic Hall after handing over cheques worth KSh 25 million to farmers groups, the governor termed such media reports as a message of goodwill that she can serve the country in other capacities

“I woke up to posters on social media of which I think was created by people who are testing waters. And let me say that if today am posted as the deputy president of somebody and tomorrow of another, it is not a bad thing because there seem to be people who wish me well and who see that I can work,” said Waiguru.

“So let me say that as the Governor of Kirinyaga, I am running for the post of Governor of Kirinyaga in 2022. At the moment, that is what I am doing because I have not held a meeting with anyone and talked about me wanting the seat of deputy president. But I see there are people who are testing the waters.

“But as the people of Kirinyaga we see it as a privilege because if they see the people of Kirinyaga are capable of becoming a deputy president, it is also a great honor.

“But for now, I am here on the ground and my focus is on being the governor of Kirinyaga in 2022 until the time when there will be a different direction. But at the moment that’s where I am and I haven’t with anyone down and talked about being his deputy.
