Senate Standing Committee on Roads and Transport chaired by Kiambu Senator Hon. Kimani Wamatangi today held a meeting with residents of Buxton Estate in Mombasa County over alleged eviction from their homes.
The residents claimed that they were forcefully evicted from Buxton estate by the County Government in an inhumane manner to pave way for modern dwellings.
They argued that their rights to shelter were infringed.
The aggrieved residents further wants to be given priority in owning the homes with favourable terms.
The committee however did not get a response from the Mombasa Governor Hon. Ali Hassan Joho after he failed to appear before them.
The committee therefore issued summons against the Governor to appear before them within 14days.
The committee also visited the Buxton estate to inspect the project.
Other members of the committee present were Senators Mohamed Mahamud,Hargura Godana,Christine Zawadi and Mohamed Faki.
