A Garissa court sentenced 26-year-old, Liban Mohamed Sambul, to 25 years imprisonment for killing a 7-year-old boy by cutting off his neck using a knife, killing him instantly, while grazing goats with other boys in Tarbaj, Wajir County.
Prosecution’s Job Mulati (ADPP) proved to court that the blood stained weapon, which the accused was still in possession, was the one used to commit the heinous crime. The matter was before Lady Justice Abida Aroni.

Prosecution’s 17th witness Chief Inspector, Gilbert Kitalia of Serious Crimes Unit told court that there were procurement irregularities in contracting Southern Engineering Company to build the Jetty & CAS Consulting Limited that offered consultancy services. Hearing continued on 28th October, 2020.
A Muti-Agency Workshop concluded as Rodah Ogoma, Ag. Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, gave the closing remarks on behalf of the DPP at Fairview Hotel, Nairobi.
She expressed her gratitude to UNODC – Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa, AWF & Space for Giants for partnering with ODPP in organizing the workshop.
The workshop bought together actors fighting against environmental crimes which included; the Office of the President, the National Police Service, KWS , KFS , KRA, EACC & KeFS.
Each institution brings diversity of expertise which is critical in combatting environmental matters & strengthening the justice chain.
The environment provides the very foundation of sustainable development which is the Centre of the current global agenda while on the other hand, environmental crimes are vastly expanding & evolving which is in turn a threat to sustainable development & livelihoods.
As investigators & prosecutors, it is important to support the government in preserving, conserving & protecting the environment & natural resources.
ODPP is commitment to join hands with relevant partners, stakeholders and agencies that share similar vision.
Challenges may be faced, but hopefully RRG will ease the enforcement & implementation of applicable laws towards the eradication of environmental related crime.
