Committee on trade, industry and cooperatives questioned CS, taskforce on the fate of goods.
The Departmental Committee on Trade, Industry and Cooperatives today met the Principal Secretary for Trade Amb. Peter Kaberia, Mr Wanyama Musiambo; the head of the Multi-Agency Task Force, and the KEBS Managing Director Bernard Njiraini.
The Committee, Chaired by Mandera South MP Hon Adan Haji Ali, sought answers from the Ministry and the Multi-Agency taskforce on the rationale behind the decision to sieze goods belonging to a number of traders, the ownership of the siezed goods, location of storage and quantities of the siezed goods, among other questions.
On 11th May, 2021, pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order 44(2)(c), the Hon. John Kiarie, MP (Dagoretti South Constituency) requested the Departmental Committee on Trade, Industry and Cooperatives to undertake an inquiry and report on the status of products seized by the Multi Agency Team in the financial years 2017/2018/ and 2018/2019.
The Committee has since launched an investigation into the matter, with a series of meetings scheduled with different stakeholders in a bid to get to the bottom of the matter, even as it plans to undertake physical inspection visits to the said storage facilities to ascertain the status of the siezed goods.
