Hon. Ayub blasts Governor Kiraitu for lawyer’s arrest

Must read

County Assembly of Meru Minority leader and Abothuguchi Central ward MCA Hon. Ayub Bundi has called for the release of lawyer Kigunda Gikunda M’raibuta, who was arrested while attending the funeral of the late Former Imenti Central MP Gideon Mwiti.

“Lawyer Kigunda revealed the truth about theft of public funds. Kiraitu Murungi has always claimed to be a supporter of democracy, but only when it benefits his family. When the truth is told about him, however, he does not consider democracy,” Hon. Ayub said.

Lawyer Kigunda Gikunda M’raibuta is a suspect in a letter that first appeared on Tuesday 20th July 2021 on social media alleging that the EACC had issued an arrest warrant for the governor, his wife, and their three children over a corruption case of 2 billion shillings.

“A lot of lies are spread on social media, and it is impossible to know who posted the letter,” Hon Ayub said.

Hon Ayub said Governor Kiraitu’s move to call for the arrest of the lawyer was wrong. He said Kiraitu should have offered the young lawyer a job instead of making life difficult for him.

“Governor Kiraitu should avoid oppressing people to the point where they are unable to express themselves or speak out about the difficulties that Meru residents face,” Hon. Ayub said.

“We can’t go about our business without mentioning Governor Kiraitu’s name because he is in charge of Meru county and should be willing to be corrected,” Hon. Ayub said.

According to Hon Ayub, Kiraitu’s bad boys also claimed on social media that he has 30 wives, children whom did not support, and that he is a thief. However, he said wouldn’t be bothered by propaganda.

“My question to Governor Kiraitu is why he didn’t call for the arrest of the Standard, Star, Nation, and Opera newspapers because his wife and son were named in the KEMSA Scandal,” Hon. Ayub said.

“It’s difficult to tell whether Governor Kiraitu thinks like a human or an animal,” Hon. Ayub said.

Earlier, Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi’s wife Priscilla Kathuguchi Murungi and son Fanon Mwenda Murungi were mentioned among the beneficiaries of Covid-19 funds.

The two received at least Ksh45 million through their company Caperina Enterprises Limited.

Caperina is said to have supplied the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (Kemsa) with 10,000 boxes of surgical masks, each box with 50 masks. Each box was sold at Ksh4,500.

This means that each mask was sold at Ksh90, against the prevailing market price of Ksh20 per mask.

As of August 31, 2020, three shareholders were listed with the Registrar of Companies with Priscilla being the majority shareholder (80 percent), Caroline Nkatha Murungi (10 percent) and Winnie Makena Murungi (10 percent).
