The latest Kenya analysis segment on Women Representatives development-based performance ranking data release conducted by Mizani Africa rated Meru County Woman Representative Hon. Bishop Kawira Mwangaza the best-performing woman representative in Kenya at 78.1 per cent followed by Homabay’s Gladys Wanga at 77.4 per cent with Fatma Gedi of Wajir scoring 76.7 per cent.
Uasin Gichu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei attained 76.1 per cent, Kirinyaga’s Purity Wangui Ngirici getting 75.4 per cent, Machakos’ Joyce Kamene 74.2 per cent, Sabina Chege 71.1 per cent, Florence Mutua 69.8 per cent, Maison Leshomo 69.3 per cent and Faith Wairimu Gitau 68.1 per cent.
According to Mizani Africa, the analysis was performed between 19th July 2021 and 17th September 2021 with an aim of rating and ranking the top ten well-performed Women Representatives in the management of the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) Funds as well as other projects lobbied by the women representatives in order to improve the livelihoods of their communities in the Counties they represent.
Hon. Bishop Kawira Mwangaza is lacing her boot to become Meru Governor come 2022. She welcomed the rating and ranking and expressed gratitude to God and the people of Meru for the opportunity to serve.
“I chose the awarding and disbursement of bursary allocation to the needy students of Meru County over engaging in political debates on the formation of new political parties, I chose to support self-help groups in Meru County with funding over engaging in political debates on the formation of new political parties, I chose to support students in schools with desks and chairs over engaging in political debates on the formation of new political parties, I chose to donate water storage tanks to schools and community groups in Meru County over engaging in political debates on the formation of new political parties, I chose to donate school uniforms to pupils clothes to people living with disabilities over engaging in political debates on the formation of new political parties and finally, I chose to support the poor in Meru County who are sleeping hungry every day,” she said.
On July 6,2021 Meru County M.P Hon. Bishop Kawira Mwangaza asked the following questions to the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection.
- What steps is the Ministry taking to ensure that there are gainful and equal employment opportunities for persons living with Disabilities (PWDs)?
- Could the Cabinet also provide information from the National Employment Authority on the status of the database on employment opportunities across the country for PWDs, considering that they are in dire need of sources of livelihood, specifically those from Meru County?
- Could the Cabinet Secretary provide a list of all registered PWDs in Meru County, showing the nature and category of each disability?
- What action(s) has the Ministry undertaken to ensure that regular and periodical updating of the register is carried out for all PWDs across the country, particularly in Meru County, so that they may benefit from the various programmes and facilitations meant to empower, assist and facilitate them in regard to their livelihoods during the Covid-19 pandemic?
- Could the Ministry consider providing free assistive equipment and devices to all PWDs across the country, and particularly in Meru County, so that they may live fulfilled lives?
The National Assembly Proceedings on 6th Oct 2021 were also a huge success as pressing issues on TVET institutions were addressed by Meru County MP Hon. Bishop Kawira Mwangaza to the Cabinet Secretary for Education.
“Thank you Hon. speaker, my question is 404/2021 to the Cabinet Secretary for Education. Could the cabinet secretary provide a list of all government-funded technical and vocational education training (TVET) institutions in Meru County?” posed Hon. Kawira.
“What measures has the ministry put in place to ensure that TVET institutions are well equipped with a view of ensuring adequate access to training for youths in Meru County?”
Hon. Bishop Kawira Mwangaza asked when the funds allocated to TVET institutions in Meru County during the 2020/2021 financial year will be disbursed to the respective institutions.
