Nyeri Town Constituency member of the parliament Hon. Ngunjiri Wambugu has hinted on his official Facebook page that Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju must resign from the party.
After handing over a certificate to Mr. Samson Kinyua Magambo for Kiagu By-elections, Wambugu accused Tuju of going against what the party members agreed to.
Tuju reaffirmed that the Party would offer Mr. Kinyua the necessary support throughout the campaign and election period.
Ngunjiri claimed that following the Kiambaa By-elections, they had all agreed not to field any other candidate in the Mt. Kenya region until they had learned from the lessons and mistakes made in the previous By-elections.
“All of us in that meeting – including the Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju and Jubilee party Vice-Chair David Murathe agreed that we would not field a candidate in any by-election in Mt. Kenya, UNTIL we had implemented lessons learnt in Kiambaa,” Ngunjiri said.
“Today Raphael Tuju, one of the people we were told needs to changed as a Party leader if Jubilee is to survive – without consulting anyone in the party’s political wing that was involved in the recent by-elections (and the people putting their political careers on the line for the party) decided to go against our post-Kiambaa agreement and issue a certificate to field a Jubilee candidate in Kiagu, Meru,” he said.
He said the Jubilee Party lose nothing in not fielding a candidate in the by-election as the former Kiagu MCA was not a member of Jubilee but actually in Maendeleo Chap Chap party.
“This is unacceptable to those of us working to rebuild this Party. We demand that this decision immediately be rescinded,” he said.
Hon. Ngunjri sent the party’s sympathies with Mr. Kinyua and asked him to bear with them as they cleaned the party.
“We are sure he is a good and worthy candidate. We also hope that he will understand that the revival of the Jubilee Party is right now MORE important than getting into a competition with other parties for a position that was NOT even ours, while unprepared, and when we are nearly guaranteed to lose; and lose badly,” he said.
He said that more importantly, the decision confirmed the fact that Hon. Raphael Tuju was clearly completely disconnected from the Jubilee base.
He said it also lends credence to fears that Tuju was no longer working in the interests of the Party.

“In this regard and after consultations with those of us who continue to sacrifice blood, sweat and tears to revive our party, we have agreed that we will NOT allow Tuju to deliberately kill our Party. Not while we watch,” Hon. Ngunjiri said.
“We therefore call upon him to do the right thing and stick to our earlier agreement not to field a candidate in Kiagu. We also now accept that he must resign as Secretary-General of the Jubilee Party, and vacate Jubilee House,” Hon. Ngunjiri said.
He said the party needed someone who understood where they were as a party, and who was connected to the Jubilee support base, as Secretary-General of the Party, and Raphael Tuju was NOT that Person.
