A teacher was killed and pupils injured when a Kienjeru Primary School bus lost control and rolled several times.
The bus was carrying a Kienjeru Primary School teacher and school children of a nearby school when the crash occurred around 5.am in Kangoro in Tharaka Nithi County.
“We took the pupils, along with the driver, to Chogoria hospital after they sustained minor injuries,” Alex Mugambi, head of the region’s rescue team said.
“We received a call around 6 a.m. informing us of a bus accident in Kangoro. We confirmed that the bus belonged to Kienjeru Primary School when we arrived on the scene. The passengers on the school bus included students of another school who had been given a lift and a Kienjeru Primary School teacher,” Mugambi said.
Mugambi urged drivers to exercise caution as a result of the recent inclement weather, which has resulted in slick roads.
He implored any witnesses to future accidents to contact 0728 222653 or the toll-free number 1413.
According to another eyewitness, the accident occurred around 5 a.m. He said the bus was on its way to pick up Kienjeru Primary School pupils.

“My condolences go out to the Kienjeru community, primary school, and teaching fraternity. The driver as well as the students who were taken to the hospital are in good health, an eyewitness said.
Nicholas Mugambi, a boda boda operator said he had driven the teacher to the bus stop, where she was picked up by the school bus.
“According to reports, the bus lost its brakes and began to roll backward. After the driver lost control of the wheel, it rolled several times downhill,” Nicholas said.
