MERU: An 80-year-old man died at a bus terminus in Meru Town, barely hours after being discharged from a hospital in the town.
According to an eyewitness, the man hailed from Kanyakine and was on his way home from Meru Level 5 hospital accompanied by his wife when he collapsed and died.
“When they arrived at the bus terminal, the wife left him standing and went to look for a vehicle. She was later informed that he had collapsed and died,” said an eyewitness.
The eyewitness said he accompanied the wife to the police station, where they filed a report and the police arrived to retrieve the body.
Another eyewitness, a street vendor, said she saw them alight from a vehicle that was said to have transported them from the hospital.

“The man collapsed and died as soon as they got off the vehicle. When I saw people covering him, I asked them to confirm that he was no longer alive, which they did and told me he had died,” she said.
According to the eyewitness, the woman went to the police station to file a report.
“I’m curious which hospitals discharge patients before they are completely healed. It is an act of negligence, in my opinion, and I urge the government to ensure that its citizens receive proper care,” she said.
Another eyewitness said that patients are being subjected to corruption in hospitals, where they must pay a bribe of Ksh 200 before being allowed to see a doctor. He said that the hospital should have provided an ambulance.
